v If you bring old electrical hair styling equipment such as flat irons, curling irons, blow dryers, etc we will do the following:
• If the equipment is still operational we will donate the item to
Marin Abused Women’s Services
. If the equipment is faulty we will recycle the item on your behalf.
• In return we will offer a $10 discount on the purchase of any retail product or electrical item.
Where does your hair go?
Wendy Coles Salon is recycling all of the hair that we cut and sends it to a San Francisco based non-profit organization, Matter of Trust . Matter of Trust uses the hair to weave hair mats that are used to collect the remnants of oils spills, which the Bay Area recently experienced. When the mats reach their “oil holding capacity” they are dumped at a site where they undergo a biodegradable recycling process. Oyster mushrooms decompose the oily hair mats, detoxify them, and turn hazardous waste into useable compost. All of the hair and oil products are fully decomposed over time and the site becomes fully reusable. Refer to our community page for our most recent Matter of Trust charity event. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Links
