February being the month of love, Wendy Coles and her team at COLOR COLOR the salon on Grant Avenue in Novato held their 2nd “Cuts for a Cause” event for Locks of Love on Monday, February 11. Eleven women came and got from 10 to 15 inches off to donate to Locks of Love, a non-profit organization that provides wigs and hair pieces to disadvantaged children under the age of 18 who suffer from medical hair loss from any illness. ABC7’s “View from the Bay” was there to film this exciting event. “Giving back to the community is part of our mission, and Locks of Love is an amazing organization. I am so proud of our team for signing up immediately and for so graciously donating their time, as usual, and to the 11 participants who were so generous to donate their beautiful hair”, Coles said. Two young girls, aged 9, Andree Souder and Sophia Lechner, specially grew their hair for 3 years just so they could donate their hair. “I really want my hair short, and it’s for something that helps people”, Andree said. “Thank you, also, to (Leigh Glaser and Dave) View from the Bay for coming to cover such an important cause. It is important to raise and keep the awareness for this organization. We wanted to emphasize that this is for children who suffer from any medical hair loss”, Coles said. Color Color received generous donations from a few local businesses. Congratulations to Vera Laintz who received the $25 gift certificate from Cacti Grill for donating the longest length of hair (15 inches). Congratulations to Shelly Hutchinson who won the raffle prize of a free massage (with Katie Phillips, CMT) and an acupuncture session (Dr Charles Peri). Grant Avenue florist also donated two beautiful rose arrangements that contributed to the ‘love’-themed décor for the event. Larkspur students get haircuts to help oil spill cleanup efforts – Monday, January 14, 2008
SHAINA FORSMAN and about 40 other students from Larkspur's Marin Primary and Middle School got the best of two worlds Monday - helping the environment by getting a haircut. Forsman and the other students participated Monday in Eco-Cuts, a program designed by Marin Primary to help in the cleanup effort triggered by the Nov. 7 oil spill in the bay. All of the hair clippings will be donated to Matter of Trust, an environmental nonprofit in San Francisco that weaves the hair into mats to soak up oil. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We held a Makeover Day (and day of pampering) for clients of Marin Abused Women's Services (MAWS), on Monday, October 15, in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the 30th Anniversary of MAWS. We were amazed at the immediate and positive response from businesses that we asked for help. Thank you to Grazie, Safeway, Ross, Katie Phillips (CMT) and Dr Heidi Law (DC) for donating gift certificates; to San Anselmo’s Sproos Hair Salon for donating the Kérastase gift basket and to one of their stylists Heather Walsh who came and helped; to Marvin’s Restaurant, Cacti Grill and Flour Chylde Bakery for the delicious food that fed everyone; to Amy Lindsay (Novato Chamber of Commerce) for donating personal time to the day and, with Bob Finer, getting donations and flowers; to Natalie Craven from Mary Kay doing makeup and providing gifts; and to Lynda Beth Unkeless for doing chair massages. A very special thanks to my stylists who so willingly donated your time and beautiful work. This day wouldn’t have been so amazing without all of your support.
MAWS celebrated 30 years of progress towards healthy and peaceful relationships in Marin County with a march and family fun day on October 21st from Dominican College to Downtown San Rafael. For more Information on MAWS please go to

Wendy Coles and her team at Wendy Coles Salon on Grant Avenue in Novato, held their second annual Makeover Day (and Day of Pampering) for clients of Marin Abused Women's Services (MAWS), on Monday, October 20, in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Coles, along with her team, gave new hairstyles, makeup, food, prizes and products to 15 women in the MAWS Transitional Housing Program. These women have survived domestic violence and are learning to be independent and to support themselves and their children. “We had an amazing evening of pampering, fun, laughter, women supporting women and of course, beautiful new looks. It was an amazing feeling to do something for these women who have been through so much, and especially to see their glow and their huge smiles afterward. I hope this gives them a boost to the start of their new lives,” Coles says. Coles was amazed at the immediate and positive response from businesses that she asked for help. "Thank you to Safeway, Ross and the Grocery Outlet for donating gift certificates; to Amy Lindsay (Novato Chamber of Commerce) for donating items and yummy food; and very special thanks to my stylists who always so generously donate your time and beautiful work. This day wouldn’t have been so amazing without all of your support," she said. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In addition, Wendy Coles Salon is known for its charitable events, regularly collecting for Locks of Love and sponsoring makeovers for clients of Marin Abused Women’s Services.
